Ronderib Afrikaner Sheep (Cape Fat-tail)
Originating from the Cape region in South Africa, these were amoung the first breed of sheep to arrive in Australia on the first fleet in 1788. Bred into extinction with the introduction of the Merino, the Ronderib Afrikaner has recently been reintroduced to Australia via embryo importation from South Africa. Currently there are only 4 flocks in Australia numbering approximately 200 animals in total.
